FEBRUARY SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT OF THE MONTH- Haier Low Energy ULT Freezers
Haier Biomedical's Low Energy Ultra-Low Temperature (ULT) freezers exemplify a commitment to sustainability through innovative design and technology. Traditional ULT freezers, operating between -70°C and -80°C, can consume approximately 16-22 kWh of electricity daily, leading to significant energy consumption and environmental impact.
To address these challenges, Haier Biomedical has developed ULT freezers that incorporate frequency conversion compressor technology. This advancement allows a 900-litre ULT freezer to use less than 10 kWh of electricity per day, achieving a 50% reduction in energy consumption compared to older models.
Additionally, these freezers utilise hydrocarbon refrigerants, which have a global warming potential close to zero, thereby minimising environmental impact. The combination of advanced compressor technology and eco-friendly refrigerants not only reduces energy usage but also aligns with global sustainability goals.
The University of Sussex, a long-term customer of Appleton Woods reported significant improvements in energy expenditure, with the low-energy freezers reducing energy consumption by approximately 12 kWh per freezer per day. This equates to annual energy savings of around 100,000 kWh and cost savings of approximately £20,000.
In recognition of its efforts, Haier Biomedical received the 2022 Listed Company Low-Carbon Contribution Award, highlighting its role in driving the ultra-low temperature freezer industry towards greater energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
By integrating energy-efficient technologies and environmentally friendly materials, Haier Biomedical's Low Energy ULT freezers offer laboratories a sustainable solution for ultra-low temperature storage, contributing to both operational efficiency and environmental conservation.
